Longtime Journalist/DJ/Producer Billy Jam, who splits his time between New York and California these days, has been down with Amoeba Music since Day One and been into the music scene (primarily Bay Area with an emphasis on hip-hop) from a decade previous, after he first came to America from his native Ireland.  Since the 1980's he has been an active DJ on twenty radio stations ranging from public, college, and commercial to pirate. (He currently does a weekly show on WFMU called "Put The Needle On The Record")  As a journalist he has written over the years for countless publications including the Source, XXL, Vibe, BAM, SF Weekly, the San Francisco Chronicle, Murder Dog, and the Bay Guardian and the New York Press, for whom he still regularly contributes.

As a music producer he has compiled, produced or overseen production of in excess of thirty albums on his Hip Hop Slam label including the five Amoeba Music compilations that focused on underground indie talents from Southern and Northern Cali (including many Amoeba Music employees), and also the DJ/turntablist "Shiggar Fraggar (feat. Invisibl Skratch Piklz)," "Scratch Attack," and "Turntables By The Bay" series.
